LEADERSHIP ROLES AMONG WOMEN AND GIRLS

Gender is the classification of the roles and responsibility that a society assign to boys and girls,

Men and women in a given culture. Gender is controlled by factors such as sex, age, culture, ethnicity and place. In the society we find ourselves male and females are treated differently from one community to the other usually men have power over women in terms of social, economic, cultural and even in political fields.

Women’s ability and strength are not acknowledged in many spheres, notwithstanding women still have little opportunity to participate in decision making at all levels. Whiles gender relations are relevant to both men and women due to inequalities in gender relations, women are more disadvantaged in many matters.

It is based on this that the gender desk of the Department regularly sensitized people in gender mainstreaming activities.

In this vein the Gender Desk of the Department sensitized four schools in four communities within the municipality on leadership roles among women and girls.

This activity is a tool in empowering women to take leadership role wherever they find themselves so that the gap between men and women could be bridged.

The sensitization was based on leadership positions in schools and other establishment which require and individual to take up or fill those positions and therefore women are encouraged to occupy those positions.

The sensitization was very interactive.
