GHANA SECONDARY CITIES SUPPORT PROGRAMME

The Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) is a Government of Ghana programme funded by the World Bank with an Urban Development Grant (UDG) and Capacity Support Grant (CSG) component. The programme is designed to improve the delivery of Urban Development Management and Services in the participating Municipal Assemblies. The Programme is currently being implemented in 35 Municipal Assemblies across Ghana including Assin Foso Municipal Assembly (AFMA). The Assin Foso Municipal Assembly is implementing the upgrading of the Assin Foso Main Station under the UDG – 3. Hence, the Assembly held a site meeting on Thursday, 25^th January 2024 at World Vision Assembly Hall and the project site (Assin Foso Main Lorry Station). 

The site meeting was held for stakeholders to ascertain the progress of work done, address challenges, and foster collaboration among the various stakeholders involved in the project implementation. The participants for the site meeting included; the supervising consultant (SOMAN Consult Limited), the contractor (Memphis Metropolitan Limited) some management members of the Assin Foso Municipal Assembly, Traditional Authorities, Hon. Assembly Members, GPRTU members, Opinion Leaders, and Community Members. There were 32 participants with 5 females and 27 males. 

• The contractor is waiting for the results from the levels picked by the consultant’s engineer concerning the unstable areas to know how best to stabilize those areas.
• There has been the construction of 0.9m and 0.6m drains.
• The contractor should consider the Mosque area in other to prevent runoff water from getting into the mosque after the project.
• The drainage wall of the existing 1.2m drain at the Mosque area would be raised to be able to contain the water that joins it from the 0.9 drain.
• The contractor will construct a 0.6m collector drain at both the main entrance and exit to collect runoff water from the N8 road since it has been approved by the consultant.
• Memphis Metropolitan Limited (Contractors) presented their progress of work report and stated that the general percentage of work done is 25%.

ACTIONS/DECISIONS

• The main entrance gate should be iron sheet.
• People selling at the asses pose a risk to their safety and so, should be moved.
• Possible access for cars (fire service car) at the gate beside Joe-Lee Computer building, especially during an emergency.
• The MCE suggested that the progress report should include the activities to be carried out in the ensuing month.
• The chairman also, suggested that the results of all the tests should be submitted to the consultant for approval first, before bringing the sub-base materials to site.
