WOMEN IN AGRIC DEVELOPMENT SECTOR - PREPARATION OF WINNIEMIX (2ND QUARTER)

WIAD officer of the Department of Agriculture Assin Fosu, trained twenty-three (23) females and two males in weanimix preparation 23rd April, 2024. Locally processed roasted maize, millet, wheat and rice based weaning foods were fortified with processed soybean. Soybean is a good source of protein, vitamin and mineral, it’s a highly nutritious food that is used world wide to combat severe malnutrition in children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, children with disabilities, older people, or patients with other health conditions, such as HIV/AIDS and diabetes. In other to reduce malnutrition among the above-mentioned vulnerable people, some of the strategies adopted included using available local cereals and legumes to develop additional nutrient value in preparing a balanced diet known as weanimix. Participants were trained on the preparation, storage, preservation and utilization of the weanimix.
