SOCIAL WELFARE AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
The Department is made up of Two Units namely; Social Welfare and Community Development.
The Department promote access to Social Welfare Services for the disadvantaged, vulnerable and excluded groups and individuals.
OPERATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT
SOCIAL WELFARE UNIT
A. CHILD RIGHT PROMOTION AND PROTEXCTION
* Child Neglect/ Maintenance
* Child Custody and Access
* Paternity related issues
* Family Reconciliation (Welfare)
* Day Care Centre Operations (Operations & Monitoring)
* Counselling Services
* Provision of Alternative Care for children without Parental Care (Foster Care & Adoption)
* Shelter and Reunification of children
* Remove, Rehabilitate and Reintegration of Street Children.
B. JUSTICE ADMINISTRATION
Make Representation at the Family Tribunal and Juvenile Court Operation System
* Engage in Juvenile Court and Family Tribunal Court sitting
* Undertake Probation and Prison After Care Services
* Adjudicate of cases in;
(I) Child Neglect & Maintenance
(II) Child Custody & Access
(III) Paternity related issues
(IV) Family Welfare & Reconciliation
(V) Conduct and write Social Enquiry Reports (SER)
* Juvenile Justice System
(I) Cases related to children in conflict and contact with the law
(II) Conduct and write Social Enquiry Reports on such children for the court
C. COMMUNITY CARE
Assist and facilitate provision of Community Care Service
* Identification, Registration, Monitoring and Advocacy for Persons With Disability (PWD’s)
* Hospital Welfare Services
* Socio-Economic and EMOTIONAL Stability in families
* Reunification and Support for Misplace Persons (Adults)
* Undertake sensitization and Social Education on Social problems
* Facilitate the implementation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Activities
* Facilitate Livelihood Empowerment Programmes for PWD’s
* NGO Registration and Monitoring
* Linkages to Complimentary Services E.g. NHIS, Microfinance support
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT UNIT
* Undertake Community Entry Processes for Programmes Initiation, Monitoring and Evaluation
* Mobilize and Train Voluntary Leaders and Community Based Organisations as Change Agents in the communities
* Promote and Provide Alternative Livelihood Empowerment Skills for the deprived in the communities
* Mobilize Community Members for Communal Labour and Self Help Projects
* Teach women Home Management, Child Care and Entrepreneurial Skills
* Organise weekly Adult Education Programmes
* Promote Entrepreneurial Skills, Business Support Services and Linkages to Financial Institutions to beneficiaries of Skill Training Programmes
* Identify, Maintain and Update Data on various groups in the community
